The best segment-starters from the top 10 national sports radio show
UPDATE: I actually got a job out of this. The D.A. Show ran a 15-minute segment on this blog post/column/piece/whatever-you-want-to-call-it on Mar. 17, 2021. I was hired to work under Amendolara shortly after, producing for the show I love so much.
I made a little video to celebrate after the segment aired - here is the full video segment plus a few of my fun add-ons.

"Swing and a miss!" That's the phrase you'll hear most announcers give to a swinging strikeout in baseball.
But it's not the phrase in The D.A. Show's vocabulary. Known for its creativity and zaniness in an otherwise straight-faced sports media industry, CBS Sports Radio's morning show (6am-10am EST) has "Swing Or A Miss." The show's behind-the-scenes duo of Shaun Morash (Mraz) and Andrew Bogusch grade the creative headlines that host Damon Amendolara (D.A.) puts together for each show segment. The recurring show game has not made its brilliant return in 2021 just yet...but here at aidanthatton.com we've got you covered.
Here are the best, the most creative headlines put together by The D.A. Show in 2021:
10. Seattle Roast
Why did Pete Carroll fire Brian Schottenheimer?
A huge coffee nut would appreciate this first entry, where the Seattle Seahawks coach fired Schottenheimer this past year. "Roasting" Schottenheimer out the door was the perfect Seattle reference, a city arguably known most notably for its incredible java.
9. Screw England
Is Stafford too soft for Foxboro?
A D.A. Show listener who's a New England Patriots fan may not gravitate towards this one, but Stafford apparently wanted nothing to do with the Pats. Every non-Patriots fan media member is certainly ready to "screw" with Foxboro. (More on Stafford in a few!)
8. Tom vs. Tub
How is it possible Mraz was in Brady's video?
Just recently, Morash was featured in Tom Brady's social media hype video with over 3 million views as of this writing. Another classic Brady video with tons of views: his "Tom vs. Time" Facebook Watch program, which, coupled with Mraz's heavy-set build, makes perfect fodder for a D.A. Show headline.
7. Bumper Carr
Are the Raiders lying about Derek?
The son of David Carr may be on his way out in Las Vegas, which is the perfect way to "park" bumper cars into a show headline. Creativity outside of the sports box gets "Bumper Carr" up to #7.
6. Jumping JAX
Should the Jags pay $12M for Meyer?
A struggling franchise like the Jacksonville Jaguars needs to do some cardio to get back in contention. If paying a hefty paycheck to incoming coach Urban Meyer is what it takes, so be it. Amendolara's surgical thought process with the Jaguars' game abbrevation of "JAX," paired with the athletic movement up the NFL power rankings makes too much sense.
5. Urban Renewal
Can Meyer turn the Jags into winners?
Another Jaguars headline?! This real estate term based on improving land was a step above #6. This also puts a lot of pressure on Coach Meyer to succeed in Jacksonville now that he owns two of the top ten headlines on this list.
4. Matt Gala
Did the Rams give up too much for Matt Stafford?
The Los Angeles Rams trading for quarterback Matthew Stafford, formerly of Detroit, was the first big NFL domino to fall this offseason. Bringing burly Stafford to a glamorous city like L.A. and making the connection between his name and the Met Gala was phenomenal and deserves to be recognized. The only detraction: the Met Gala being in New York as opposed to the West Coast.
3. Labor D.A.
Is the host cranky because he needs a vacation?
Just this past week, D.A. (center) was accused of being a little too cranky of a coworker by his counterparts Bogusch (right) and Morash (left). What better way to celebrate (or commiserate) than by connecting Labor Day - around work - to D.A.'s rhyming acronym. Amendolara often plays off this (e.g. His 40th BirthDA).
2. Prime Fib
What really happened to Deion's stuff?
Deion Sanders' coaching debut at Jackson State did not go as planned. His first game - and win - for the HBCU squad was highly covered in sports media but also tainted by an alleged theft; his personal belongings were reportedly stolen, but the university stated they were simply misplaced. Who is to believe? This D.A. Show segment name ripped off Sanders' "Prime Time" nickname from his playing days with a classic Easter meat. There was only one better headline from the calendar year...
1. Mather Marshalled
Did the Mariners CEO have to resign?
It's the crown jewel of 2021 (so far). The story of former Mariners CEO Kevin Mather's controversial comments seemed so outlandish that someone should be leading him out the door towards his resignation. Having said this, having Mather be "marshalled" out of his post seemed quite logical. This is why the reference to Eminem's real name, Marshall Mathers, is so perfect. There's no better way to wrap up The D.A. Show's best headlines of 2021.
